Black Girl Joy Bike Ride is a Best Of Philly winning organization working to foster ridership amongst Black Women, one of the most underserved and overlooked demographics of cyclists in our city.
Black Girl Joy Bike Ride works to engage Black Women in the greater Philadelphia area through bi-weekly bike rides that connect community, joy, and integrate physical activity. Part of Black Girl Joy Bike Ride’s mission is to make cycling more accessible to Black Women, whether it’s for fun or fitness. The program uses a Philadelphia bike share program (Indego), that is at no-cost for the attendees, many of whom do not have their own bicycle. Outside of the program, bicycle access is a huge barrier that Black Girl Joy Bike Ride is raising funds to address.

In the words of Black Girl Joy Bike Ride's founder, Iresha Picot:
As Black Girl Joy Bike Ride’s founder and ride leader, I would like for there to be more equity considerations in Philadelphia’s cycling community. I firmly believe that everyone should have access to a ‘good’ bicycle if they desire to have one. However, with the increasing costs of quality bikes, this excludes a large sector of the cycling population. As a result, Black Women are the least visible using Philadelphia’s cycling infrastructure. I want any Black Woman who wants a bicycle to have access to one, as cycling promotes community, physical activity that reduces the risks of cardiovascular disease and diabetes and reclaims mental and emotional wellness by building healthy habits with outdoor activity.

All Funds will be transferred to Black Girl Joy Bike Ride via their fiscal sponsor, Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia 501(c)(3), at the completion of the fundraiser.
