We have an opportunity to make Fairmount safer with the 22nd Street Traffic Safety Project. Fairmount Civic Association wants to hear from Fairmount residents as they consider extending the bike lane and pedestrian safety measures on 22nd Street from Fairmount Avenue to Brown Street.
Dangerous and deadly driving is an urgent crisis in Philadelphia, with recent data showing a record number of deaths among vulnerable road users.
Our neighborhood is no exception. There were 12 crashes on 22nd Street between 2018-2022 with 5 people injured — 42% of those crashes were due to aggressive driving. Most of these crashes occurred at intersections, and the proposed traffic safety measures improve safety for all roadway users, decreasing the likelihood of crashes.
We need traffic safety measures on 22nd Street to prevent crashes and make the streets safer for all neighbors, including children at Bache-Martin and the Eastern State Playpen Playground.
We can design our streets to be safer and more pleasant to use for all street users.
Let’s make Fairmount safer for our children and our neighbors.
